Groups of playful putti dancing are one of the most recurrent themes in Pollino’s graphic production. The three figures recall, for example, those appearing on a large sheet by the artist with a Bacchanal of putti sold at Christie’s in New York (30 January 2018, lot 12) and now in the Fondazione Marignoli di Montecorona in Spoleto (see S. Prosperi Valenti Rodinò, ‘Pollino: I disegni’, in Cesare Franchi detto il Pollino Miniatore (Perugia c. 1555 – 1595), Rome, 2020, pp. 58-59, ill.). Pollino is best known as a miniaturist and a draftsman, he was mostly active between Rome and Perugia following in the artistic footsteps of masters such as Federico Barocci and Federico Zuccaro.
