Bupi was a type of bronze coin used in the Central Plains states during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods of ancient China. It evolved from the bronze farming tool "bole". As the early hemp cloth was used as a medium of exchange, the copper coins retained the term "bupi", also known as "bole cloth".
It was mainly circulated in the Zhou royal territory and the regions of Han, Zhao, and Wei in the Three Kingdoms.
