Estate of A. Shephard, Chocowinity, NC
Liu Tianxiu (Qing dynasty), style name Yiwen, sobriquet Lianzhou, was a native of Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. Celebrated for his calligraphy, he was also a discerning connoisseur, erudite and deeply devoted to antiquity. Paintings and calligraphy once in his possession are now represented in major institutions and have appeared on the market. Notable examples include Fu Shan (1607-1684)'s Seven-Character Quatrain in Running Script on silk, now in the collection of the Tsinghua University Art Museum, and Fu Shan's Notes from the Shuang Hong Kan Notes, sold at Christie's Hong Kong on 27 November 2024, lot 178.

款識：昔唐太宗即位之初，突利、頡利二虜犯境，太宗親往徵之，率房玄齡、尉遲恭等六人與突利可汗會於渭水便橋之北。讓以背約負恩，虜漸懼，皆下馬羅拜。太宗即日還宮，遣高士廉與之議和，遣速歸返還所掠之男婦，即北歸月餘，貢馬三千匹，牛萬口，此便橋會盟之故事也。然太宗是舉不費寸刃而二虜慚服，威武震揚，真英明之主。壬寅冬十月晦日，得見實甫仇君所橅是圖，設色精工，佈置有則，描寫其貔貅嚴肅之容，虜戎匍伏之象，種種克肖，苟非天縱之資，其孰能臻此。徵明書
