According to Ming Hua Lu (Records of Ming Dynasty Paintings) by Xu Qin (1626-1683), "Yuan Wen, style name Shenyan, was adept at flower painting." Lidai Huashi Huizhuan (Collected Records of Painting History from Past Dynasties) by Peng Yuncan (a. 1820-1850) states that the artist was a zhusheng (licentiate) from Wu (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu), who spent his later years in Hangzhou, and that he grasped the delicate and refined essence of Qiu Ying's art.
There are two collector's seals of the mount Suianshi and Bao Qinwang Bao, were both created for the Qianlong Emperor during his princely days. The future emperor was appointed as Bao Qinwang (Precious Imperial Prince) in 1733 and held the title until ascending the throne in 1736. Sui'anshi (Studio for Peace, Regardless) was named in 1727, during the time the future emperor lived in the Chonghua Palace, although he later used the name for other locations in the numerous Imperial compounds. The two seals used for the impressions on this fan were sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong 3 October 2018, lot 3205.

該挖鑲扇面卡紙右側見兩枚乾隆帝印章,「寶親王寶」及「隨安室」,皆與《乾隆寶藪》上該二章印蛻相同。
