Attributed to Francesco Liani (Italian, 1712/14-c.1780)
Attributed to Francesco Liani (Italian, 1712/14-c.1780)
Portrait of Infante Antonio Pascual of Spain (1755–1817) son of Charles III of Spain and Maria Amalia of Saxony
oil on canvas
63.5 x 50 cm. (25 x 19 3/4 in.)
Provenance:
Infante Francisco Javier was the youngest son of Maria Amalia of Saxony and Charles VII of Naples, who became King Charles III of Spain in 1759. Born in Caserta, he relocated to Spain that same year following his father's ascension to the throne. In this depiction, Francisco Javier appears as a young child, posed in a manner inspired by a double portrait of him and his older brother, painted by Giuseppe Bonito before 1759. That original painting was once housed in the Museo di San Martino in Naples and is now part of the collection at the Royal Palace of Caserta.
