J. Dautriche, circa 1760
The probably later molded breche d'alep marble top a frieze drawer and drop-front gilt tooled leather writing surface opening to reveal a fitted interior with pigeonhole, shelves, and small drawers, all above two cabinet doors enclosing shelves and further drawers, flanked by fluted pilasters mounted with finely chased gilt-bronze appliques on cabriole legs and sabots; partial signature J. Dautriche.
Height 53 3/4 inches (136.5 cm), width 47 1/2 inches (120 cm), depth 17 1/4 inches (43.5 cm).

Provenance: Doyle New York, January 24, 2007, lot 1241.
Dautriche, originally from the Netherlands, relocated to Paris, where he worked in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine under a French pseudonym. He gained recognition for his exceptional craftsmanship in marquetry and parquetry, particularly in the creation of large case furniture such as commodes and secretaires. A closely related gilt-bronze mounted parquetry secrétaire à abattant is illustrated in Pierre Kjellberg’s Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe Siècle,1998, p. 222).
Marble top probably later and with restorations, some chips to back of marble, rippling and lifting to veneers throughout consistent with age, rubbing to bronze mounts, with two keys, old marks and scratches.
