Louis XVI Ormolu and White Marble Mantel Clock
拍品描述:
The dial signed Mabille a Paris, circa 1775-80
The circular enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, inscribed Mabille a Paris, set within a beaded and acanthus-cast bezel surmounted by an urn-form finial with draped swags, the dial mounted atop a naturalistically cast lion striding left, wearing a harness suggesting its role as a regal bearer of time, the figure rests on a rectangular ormolu platform adorned with laurel swags, all raised on a stepped white marble plinth applied with rosettes, and scrollwork. (feet missing).
Height 13 1/2 inches (34.2 cm).
Provenance: Christie's, New York, June 6, 1984, lot 38.

Probably Charles Mabille, active in Paris in the second half of the 18th Century, is recorded as part of a family of horologers, with several known models of his work housed in fine collections. Comparable models, attributed to Jean-Baptiste-André Furet or cast by François Rémond, share similar iconographic and material features.
