Walter Ames Compton (1911-1990), was a medical doctor, pharmacy researcher, and avid Japanese sword collector. He received 4th Class of Order of the Rising Sun from the government of Japan to honor the return of several Japanese swords to Japan. This included one of the National Treasures of Japan, Bizen-Saburou Kunimune, which he returned toTerukuni jinja, a Shinto shrine in the city of Kagoshima.
