ENTHRONED MOTHER OF GOD WITH THE CHILD JESUS Rhineland, early 14th century Oak wood, sculpted, polychrome, flattened on the back. H. 53.5, W. 24, D. 13 cm, weight approx. 4.97 kg. Depiction of the enthroned Mother of God with the Christ Child, represented as Sedes Sapientiae (seat of wisdom) on a block-like throne, holding the child on her knee in a blessing gesture. The figurative elaboration and the drapery are based on the idealized Madonna types of the Rhineland, as they were widespread in the Bonn and Cologne areas at the beginning of the 14th century. Partially preserved and losses to the painting, damaged, attributes missing, tension crack on the reverse, minimal Anobium infestation (inactive). Darstellung der thronenden Gottesmutter mit dem Christuskind, als Sedes Sapientiae (Sitz der Weisheit) auf einem blockhaften Thron dargestellt, das Kind segnend auf dem Knie haltend. Die figürliche Ausarbeitung und der Faltenwurf orientiert sich an den idealisierten Madonnentypen des Rheinlands, wie sie etwa im Umkreis des Bonner oder Kölner Raums zu Beginn des 14. Jahrhunderts verbreitet waren. Part. best. und Verluste der Fassung, besch., Attribute fehlen, rückseitig Spannungsriss, min. Anobienbefall (inaktiv). Provenienz: Privatsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen.
