oil and gouache on paper, signed lower left 'dufresne', 25.5 x 27.3 cm
Provenance:
Percy Moore Turner Will Trust;
Sotheby Parke Bernet & Co., London, Important Impressionist and Modern Drawings and Watercolours, 5th December 1979, lot 263 (illus.);

Note:
Percy Moore Turner (1877-1950) was a British art dealer, who dealt mainly in French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works. From 1902, he became a link between the London and Paris art market and opened his own gallery on Grafton Street from 1920-32. He bequeathed over 200 drawings, prints and objects to the British Museum.
Duferesne spent two years in Algiers in 1910 and this experience inspired the Orientalist language of his mature style, seen in the present work. Similar works in are major collections around the world, including the Pompidou Collection.
