Mechanical pencil, October 3, 1962, 4 in. long, 1 1/4 in. diameter, attached to a retractable chain housed in a casing hub with a silver-colored cap decorated with Wally Schirra’s ∑ 7 (Sigma 7) flight insignia. Chain housing is attached to a clear base with a clip, total length measuring 5 inches.
Pencil and base are displayed between paragraphs on a Typed Letter Signed by Walter M. Schirra, Jr., on his personal stationery, bearing his WMS watermark and his residential address
