Liu Xiling was born in Zhejiang, however his career as an artist was mainly in Sichuan province. Calling himself 'the Deaf Daoist' he abandoned painting with a brush in his 40's, choosing to express himself with ink solely applied by his fingers and palms. This charming depiction of chicks demonstrates his skillful touch. The Sichuan Provincial Museum holds over 20 examples of the artist's work, and in March 2002, they dedicated an exhibition to the artist's work.
