Ernst Holmgren (1891–1967), a Swedish diplomat and avid collector of Asian antiquities, began acquiring Chinese ceramics during his postings in Beijing and Shanghai in the 1940s. The collection remained in the family estate in Uppsala, Sweden, until its recent consignment.
