A CHARMING COPY IN CONTEMPORARY LIMP VELLUM WITH FORE-EDGE FLAPS. THE DE-THOU–SOUBISE COPY.
The shelfmark on the inside upper cover is that of Charles de Rohan, prince de Soubise (1715-1787), who inherited the de Thou library. (For another example of the Soubise shelfmark in the Bibliotheca Brookeriana, see Magnificent Books and Bindings, lot 2 (Alberti). For a further volume in the present sale with the same prestigious provenance, see lot 1845 (Stella).
