拍品描述:
BARDI, GIROLAMO. Della chronologia universale, parte quarta. Venice: Lucantonio II Giunta, 1581
A CONTEMPORARY ROMAN GREEN MOROCCO BINDING, PROBABLY FROM THE BIBLIOTECA ALTEMPSIANA.
Fourth and final volume of the four that make up the Chronologia universale of the Camaldolese monk and Florentine writer Girolamo Bardi (c. 1544-1594). In the series, Bardi lists all the periods of heresy, prodigies and illustrious men who have marked the kingdoms of the West and the East. This final volume covers the events that took place from the year 994 to 1580.
What appears to be the complete set of Bardi’s Chronologia uniuersale is cited in a manuscript inventory of the Altemps library taken in Rome 1609, transcribed by Alfredo Serrai in his La Bibliotheca Altempsiniana (2008; p. 198, no. 2611): “Chronologia del Bardi. In f[oli]o. V[enezi]a. tom. 3." (the four volumes of this set were customarily bound as three). The printed books in the Altemps library were mostly dispersed at the end of the seventeenth century, save for those sold in these rooms on 8 July 1907 ("Catalogue of the choicer portion of the library of the dukes of Altemps, removed from Piazza S. Lungi del Francesi") and in Rome on 20 January-10 February 1908 (Dario Rossi, "Catalogue des livres et manuscrits composant la Bibliothèque des Ducs d’Altemps").
