LIANGZHU'S JADE CONG EMBLEM OF ANCIENT RITUAL AND ARTISTRY
拍品描述:
Measurements: L. 7.7 cm. W. 7.7 cm. H. 6.2 cm. Weight 385 grams.
This is a jade cong, a typical artifact of Liangzhu Culture. Liangzhu Culture is a Neolithic culture in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China, dating back approximately 5300 - 4300 years. The jade cong is square on the outside and round on the inside, often adorned with exquisite patterns such as the deity - beast face motif. In those days, it was mainly used as a ritual vessel, embodying the concept of "using huang (semicircular jade pendant) and cong to worship the earth". It was employed in important ceremonies like sacrifices, reflecting the religious beliefs and social hierarchy of that time. With its exquisite craftsmanship, it contains extremely high historical, artistic, and cultural values, and has been highly prized by jade enthusiasts since ancient times.
