Ryushi (Isamu Komada) (Japanese, b. 1934). Carved boxwood ojime titled "Ox," completed in the spring of 1998. The ox, which is depicted wrapped in a kerchief, has its himotoshi lined in stag antler. With a wooden tomobako.
The ox based on a myth of an ox which ran into a line of laundry, pulling it along. The angry woman to whom the cloths belonged began to chase the ox, which entered a temple. The woman, who was not very religious, soon became so as she recovered her clothes within the temple.
