A RARE CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE 'DRAGON KING' DISH Qing Dynasty, Kangxi Period 清康熙 青花龍神圖盤 青花《大明成化年製》楷書款 Painted to the centre with a figurative scene depicting the longwang appearing over tumultuous waves, watching from above as his messenger delivers a scroll to a man deeply asleep on the grassy banks, the cavetto with a quartet of cartouches enclosing clusters of ripe peaches and leafy sprays, inscribed to the base with an apocryphal six-character Chenghua mark within a double ring 26.5cm diameter - PROVENANCE: Private collection, UK - NOTE: The Dragon King, longwang, is a Chinese water and weather god, and is regarded as the dispenser of rain who commands over all bodies of water.
