AN ITALIAN BRONZE EQUESTRIAN FIGURE OF MARCUS AURELIUS MANNER OF THE WORKSHOP OF SEVERO CALZETTA DE RAVENNA, 17TH CENTURY Set on ebonised base bronze 17cm high, 22cm high overall, base 16cm wide It is likely that this equestrian figure, derived from the over life-size equestrian bronze on the Capitoline Hill in Rome, this would originally have had a base with a shell inkwell set on it. Typical of bronzes produced by the da Ravenna workshop, such a piece would demonstrate the owner's erudition as well as being a domestic functional piece with use as inkwell and candle holder.
