Ring in 18k (750 thousandths) yellow gold, very nicely decorated on the rim and set with a rough carnelian intaglio of a woman in profile. Probably produced for the Grand Tour in the Antique style. The Grand Tour was the trip that enabled members of Europe's elite to visit the many archaeological sites that had just been discovered. A production of souvenir jewelry was born in the vicinity of sites like Pompeii, Athens... Some were made of non-precious metals, glass paste or lava stone, others of gold with quality stones. This jewel has been worn and loved, as there are traces of wear on the ring decoration.
