Suzhou, 18th century
Expertly carved in high relief with a spirited horse, its mane knotted and flowing, reined and roped, prancing beneath the shelter of pine trees, a watchful monkey perched nearby, the other side with a darker monkey in ascent, scaling pale white rocks while the twisted form of a gnarled tree trunk, hewn from black jade, rises beside it, the stone of pale white and black tone, attached to a chord with seed pearls and rose quartz bead.
5.8cm (2 1/4in) high.
