Jacques François Joseph Saly (1717-1776) was one of the most remarkable sculptors of the eighteenth century, distinguished by his extraordinary technical mastery and the refinement of his compositions. His training at the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in Paris provided him with the solid foundation that is reflected throughout his work. His appointment as royal sculptor to the Danish court marked the pinnacle of his career, culminating in the creation of the imposing equestrian statue of Frederick V in Copenhagen, which stands as the greatest testament to his talent.
