This antique Japanese porcelain jar captures a dynamic scene of scholars in an engaged gathering, accompanied by a servant standing attentively nearby. Set against a deep red background, the figures are meticulously detailed, with the scholars portrayed in traditional attire accented in cobalt blue and gold. The servant, positioned beside them, adds an element of social hierarchy and narrative depth to the scene. Gilded patterns on the scholars’ robes and a floral gold band around the rim further enhance the jar’s elegance and craftsmanship. The vibrant colors and detailed portrayal of the scholar gathering, with the attentive servant adding visual interest, make this jar a striking display piece, ideal for a focal point in an East Asian art collection, would be a valuable addition to any Japanese ceramics collection. There is a red overglaze artist mark at the base. Other than a few very tiny pinholes due to firing process and a hairline at the base, this vase in in overall very good condition with minimal sign of age and wear, with no chips or other damage observed.
