Late 16th to early 17th century
The top of standard mitre, mortise, tenon frame construction with a flush, tongue-and-grooved, floating panel supported by two transverse dovetailed stretchers underneath, the edge of the frame moulding downwards and inwards to an undulating band of wavy pattern in high relief, the beaded-edged apron brilliantly carved with confronting phoenixes flanking the sun on the long sides, the short sides decorated with birds amidst flowering branches, all raised on four round legs with spandrels carved in the form of a writhing dragon at the corners between the legs and aprons, with four
lingzhi-form braces mortised into the inside of the legs and the underside of the stretchers.
