A pair of Chinese Imperial famille rose yellow sgraffiato-ground 'medallion' bowls
Qing dynasty, Daoguang marks and period
Each finely enamelled to the exterior of the gently rounded sides, with medallions enclosing various wintry, spring, summer and autumnal landscapes, all reserved on a bright yellow, sgraffiato ground with scrolling lotuses, the interiors with enamelled, stylised eight-petalled lotus to the centres, the bases with underglaze blue six-character seal marks, each 15cm diameter (2).

Cf.a similar yellow-ground bowl illustrated in Encompassing Precious Beauty: The Songzhutang Collection of Imperial Chinese Ceramics, Hong Kong, 2016, pp.220-221, no.86.
A similar yellow-ground bowl was sold by Christie's London, 27 May 2022, lot 1099, and a further related bowl, but of ruby ground, by Bonhams, New Bond Street, 16 May 2019, lot 131.
Both with light wear and some rubbing to enamels to the centre. One bowl with approx. 60mm hairline and a tiny nibble to the exterior of the rim. The other bowl with five hairlines, respectively 55mm, 20mm, 6mm, 5mm and 7mm.

Each finely enamelled to the exterior of the gently rounded sides, with medallions enclosing various wintry, spring, summer and autumnal landscapes, all reserved on a bright yellow, sgraffiato ground with scrolling lotuses, the interiors with enamelled, stylised eight-petalled lotus to the centres, the bases with underglaze blue six-character seal marks, each 15cm diameter (2).
