Henry Cahieux was a Parisian sculptor who collaborated closely with the foundry of Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892). Author of artistic bronzes of neoclassical inspiration, he participated in the Salons of 1850 and 1853. Most of these pieces were of Greek, Egyptian and historicist style, fashionable at the time. Victor Champier's article "Industrial Artists", which appeared in the Journal of Decorative Arts (December 1888), echoed the artist's genius and lamented his untimely death: "Barbedienne had just lost (in 1854), snatched by cholera in the prime of life, this young man with such a promising future, whose works, imbued with a taste full of grace, showed him to be a master". At the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1855, his lamps, which were listed as Henry Cahieux's last testimonial, won a medal of honor for the Barbedienne stand.
