拍品名称:
Girolamo Romanino Study of a male nude walking to the right
拍品描述:
Girolamo Romanino
(Brescia c. 1484 - c. 1562)
Study of a male nude walking to the right
Pen and brown ink;
bears recent attribution on the verso: Gambara
182 by 111 mm
Sale, Paris, Hôtel Drouot, 9 June 2021, lot 6 (as North Italian School, 16th Century)
A rare drawing by Romanino, this study represents a Saint or a worshipper in prayer, presumably to the left of a religious composition. It is interesting to see the pentimento of the left folded arm, first studied at waist height with the hand pointing forward, and then with both arms folded at the breast, his head looking up. The very quick rendering of the hands, where the artist is interested only to convey the movement, as well as the parallel hatchings and cross-hatchings and other small strokes to animate the figure, are characteristic of Romanino's graphic style.
We are grateful to Prof. Francesco Frangi for confirming the attribution to Romanino, having seen the sheet in the original, and for suggesting a dating to circa 1540.1
