View of Haarlem with a tow-boat along the Oude Weg and Zijlmolen, in the distance the Sint-Bavo Church and the Spaarnwouderpoort, Provenance:-Probably sold at: Auction, Weddepohl, Amsterdam, 18-21 May 1863, lot B 30, as: ‘K. la Fargue, Gezicht op de stad Haarlem, zeer natuurlijk’, Please compare to a similar composition by Paulus Constantijn la Fargue (1729-1782), depicting a view of Haarlem seen from the North, in the collection of the Hessisches Landesmuseum, Kupferstichkabinett Darmstadt, inv. no. ae 1007.We are grateful to Charles Dumas for his help in cataloguing this lot, black chalk and washed ink on paper, 31,5x46 cm, signed and dated 'Karel la Fargue/1785' (lower left), Karel la Fargue (1738-1793)
